In a 50-over match between two under-19 women teams of Kerala and Nagaland states, the former bundled out the Naga team for a record low total of 2, one of which came from extras due to a wide delivery. The Kerala chased the total in a single delivery to win the match.
After the Nagaland team won the toss and chose to bat first, nine of their batters fell without scoring. The only run scored off the bat came from the bat of opener, Menka.
Interestingly, the Naga team stayed on the pitch for 17 overs and their first wicket fell in the sixth over.
Kerala’s captain Minnu Mani was the pick of the bowlers. She scalped four wickets without conceding any run.
The score was the lowest total posted by any side at any level of cricket played under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Before this, an Under-14 team was all out for 6 in a district level tournament in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
Kerala team needed just one delivery to score the winning runs.
Nagaland is among the five newly inducted teams from India’s north-eastern region.
Earlier, during a match between Nagaland and Manipur Under-19 women’s teams, 136 wide balls were bowled.
The new teams were inducted after recommendations by a committee appointed by India’s top court.
The state cricket association of Nagaland said their players need encouragement as the state lacked cricket infrastructure, coaching and training facilities.
“We appeal to the sports lovers to support our cricketers while assuring that the NCA [Nagaland Cricket Association] will continue to pursue improvement of the game at all levels," Association’s vice president P Bendang Jamir said in a statement.
