After weeks of speculation about what’s come to be known as Virushka, the captain of Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli and his Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma got married on Monday at a countryside resort in Italy amid a small gathering of close family members and friends.
The couple took to Twitter to break the news of their much-anticipated wedding, sharing an adorable picture from the ceremony.
"Today we have promised each other to be bound in love forever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you. This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey," they wrote.
The traditional wedding ceremony will now be followed by two receptions- on in the Indian cricketer’s hometown Delhi on Thursday, December 21 and another for in Mumbai on December 26.
A spokesperson for the actress also confirmed the news in a statement.
"We are extremely grateful to the media for their support and understanding in making this special occasion a memorable one and thank them for their continued love and support."
Last week, the spokesperson for Anushka had debunked the rumours about the couple's plans to marry in Italy and said there was "no truth" to the reports.

Virat and Anushka first met during the shoot of a commercial and were dating since 2013.
Since the news of their wedding, social media has been inundated with congratulatory messages for the couple with the #VirushkaWEDDING being the top Twitter trend in India.
