Watch: Indian woman critical after car crash in Melbourne

A 32-year-old Indian woman is critical after being struck by a sedan in Dandenong on Monday afternoon.

A 32-year-old woman is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Dandenong, in Melbourne’s south-east on Monday afternoon.

The Springvale woman was hit by a gold Mitsubishi Magna travelling along Forster Street.

She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Shop-owner Harjinder Singh was among those who ran outside after hearing a loud bang. He said the woman was trapped under the car.

“We had to free her by lifting the car from the rear end,” he told SBS Punjabi.

The woman, a student from India, and her husband regularly visit Harjinder Singh’s grocery shop.

On Monday, she had just gotten out of the car while her husband and daughter still inside when the Magna crashed into the rear of their vehicle.

“I heard a loud bang and when I went out this car had crashed into their vehicle and the woman was under the car. She was badly hurt,” said Mr Singh.

The woman’s husband, a truck driver, and their daughter were unhurt.


The 54-year-old male driver of the Magna was also taken to hospital for observation.

Police believe the Magna collided with several vehicles in Dandenong before striking the woman.

Forster Street remained closed for many hours after the incident as detectives from the Major Collision Investigation unit gathered evidence from the spot.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
