ਗਿੱਲ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ ਫਾਜ਼ਿਲਕਾ ਜ਼ਿਲੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਚੱਕ ਜੈਮਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਾਲ਼ਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ੁਬਮਨ ਦੇ ਦਾਦਾ-ਦਾਦੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਦਕਿ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਾਂ-ਬਾਪ ੨੦੦੭ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਬਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮੁਹਾਲੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ਸਨ।
ਸ਼ੁਬਮਨ ਦੇ ੮੨- ਸਾਲਾ ਦਾਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਅਜੇ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਪਿੱਪਲ ਦੀ ਲੱਕੜ ਨਾਲ ਬਣਾਏ ਪੰਜ ਬੈਟ ਸੰਭਾਲਕੇ ਰੱਖੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਿਤਾ ਲਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਕੀਰਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਬੀਬੀਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਸ਼ੁਭਮਨ ਦੇ ਦਾਦਾ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪਿੱਪਲ ਦੇ ਤਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਛੇ-ਸੱਤ ਬੈਟ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਲਕੇ ਸਨ - "ਸ਼ੁਬਮਨ ਦੀ ਕਾਮਯਾਬੀ ਤਿੰਨ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਦਾ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਹੈ।"
ਦਾਦੀ ਗੁਰਮੇਲ ਕੌਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਬਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਖੋਆ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਸੰਦ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਕ੍ਰਿਕਟ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਕੱਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਇਨਾਮ ਵਜੋਂ ੨੦ ਕਿਲੋ ਦੁੱਧ ਦਾ ਖੋਆ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਕਾਜੂ-ਕਿਸ਼ਮਿਸ਼ ਪਾਕੇ ਸ਼ੁਬਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
Shubman Gill is an Indian cricketer who was declared player of the tournament at the recently concluded ICC U-19 World Cup. He also won three Man of the Match awards at the World Cup.
Gill scored 372 runs with four half centuries and a hundred that came against Pakistan in the semi-final. He averaged 124 in the tournament and had an amazing strike-rate of 112.38.

1. Shubman Gill (born 8 September 1999) hails from Chak Jaimal Singh Wala village (also known as Chak Kherewala) in Fazilka district of Punjab. Gill’s 82-year-old grandfather Didar Singh Gill still holds his first five bats at his native village.
2. Gill loves Khoya (dried whole milk or milk thickened by heating in an open iron pan). His grandmother Gurmel Kaur told Indian Express that after his return to the native village she will offer him specially made Punjabi sweets - “I have prepared special khoya from 20 litres of milk for him and mixed it with special dry fruits which he likes,” she said.
3. In 2007, his parents moved to Mohali to provide him better training facilities. Gill’s father Lakhwinder Singh was his first coach who always wanted to see him play for India’s national team.

4. In 2014, Gill smashed 351 runs and set a record partnership of 587 runs with his opening partner Nirmal Singh in ML Markan Trophy.
5. Gill bagged Man of the series trophy for his performance against England in 2017.
6. He made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on 17 November 2017.
7. In December 2017, he was named vice captain of India's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
8. Following his world class performance in the tournament, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Gill as the rising star of the squad.
9. In January 2018, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹1.8 crore (US$280,000) in the 2018 IPL auction.
10. Shubman Gill credits his father for his overall success. Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are his all-time favourite cricketers.
