“Defacing and vandalising my posters just because I am a woman”

Councillor Yasotha Ponnuthurai of the City of Canning, Greater Perth, Western Australia has called Canning home for more than two decades. Her focus is family, young people, women and sustainable projects. As a Curtin MBA graduate, Yaso is a good administrator and values vibrant small business, and knows how local works: proper governance, transparency and trust. Her motto is: Energy. Leadership. Vision. Yaso’s posters have continuously been defaced and vandalised. RaySel spoke to Councillor Yasotha Ponnuthurai on the challenges she is facing in the mayoral election in the City of Canning.
