Lord Ganesha idols created with Australian environment in mind

Ganesha Chaturthi, a Hindu festival is celebrated on the 31st of August this year. During this festival, idols of Lord Ganesha (also referred as Ganapathy, Vinayagar and Pillaiyar) are taken in a procession and worshipers dissolve them in a body of water, mostly the sea.

This practice could pose a risk of harm to marine life.

Pramila Shanmuga Ganesan has been handcrafting biodegradable Ganesha idols for some time.
