King Charles has vowed to serve as monarch with "loyalty, respect and love" as Her Majesty did for more than seven decades.
The new king has spoken of his gratefulness for the many condolences offered from leaders and ordinary people around the world.
Flags are flying at half-mast across Australia and while the country is not expected to observe an official mourning period, a national memorial is expected.
Australians woke yesterday morning to news the Queen had died peacefully at Balmoral in Scotland, at the age of 96 years old.

The head of the United Nation's nuclear watchdog group says shelling has caused a blackout in the Ukrainian city of Enerhodar and has compromised the safety operations of the nearby Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Rafael Grossi is calling for shelling to stop in the area so that workers could restore power in the city adding that there could be grave consequences should shelling of the plant continues.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says his country has been allocated 5 billion euros of assistance from the European Union and that visa restrictions on Russian nationals travelling there will come into effect on Monday.
