31/08/2022. Leaders attending today's National Cabinet meeting have agreed to reduce the Covid-19 isolation period from seven days down to five, following National Cabinet meeting earlier today. Mandatory mask-wearing on domestic flights has also been removed. New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet has issued an ultimatum to train drivers, warning them to reach a deal with the State Government or end up in the Fair Work Commission.


A new centre funded by the biggest ever donation to Australian medical research will be set up in Melbourne to make the world better prepared for future pandemics. The Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics - which will initially be based in the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity - will fast-track the design and development of life-saving treatments.

Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers has dismissed claims that Unions will dominate the Jobs and Skills Summit. The meetings are set to begin in Canberra tomorrow and will involve representatives from businesses, unions, government and community groups. The Opposition says that union representation will far outweigh other groups, but Mr Chalmers says this is untrue.

Indonesia has warned officials from the G20 group of countries a failure to co-operate on reducing emissions will push the planet into unchartered territory. Speaking at G20 climate talks on the resort island of Bali, the host country's environment minister has urged her counterparts to address global warming or face a world where no future will be sustainable.
