Around 2,000 Pakistani students had their visas cancelled in the last 6 years

The Australian government requires all the student visa applications to meet the health, character and security checks before being granted a visa.

According to the latest figures provided to by the Department of Home Affairs, for the period 01 July 2014 to 31 December 2019, there have been 1,941 student visa cancellations of Pakistani nationals.

“Like all visa holders, international students must abide by the conditions of their visa. These rules apply equally irrespective of country of origin. Anyone who does not abide by their visa conditions risks having their visa cancelled.” A spokesperson from the Department of Home Affairs said.

The most common reasons for student visa cancellations include:

  • not complying with their visa conditions (such as no longer being enrolled in an appropriate course of study or failing to comply with their visa conditions relating to work restrictions and course requirements);
  • providing incorrect information or bogus documents;
  •  having a material change in circumstances;
  •  being found to be a non-genuine student;
  •  the student requests a visa cancellation (e.g. they have returned to their home country).  
The department of Home Affairs says that the international students must abide by the conditions of their visa (just like other visa holders).

These rules apply equally irrespective of country of origin.
During the period 2018 – 19, there were 8,913 men and 6,129 women all belonging to the age group of 18-34 years, whose visas were cancelled by the authorities.
