Funeral prayer offered for Pakistani man killed by two teenagers

Zeeshan Akbar died at the scene after he was stabbed at a service station in Queanbeyan by two teenagers who are now facing charges, following earlier investigations by the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team.

A number of Pakistani community members gathered this morning in New South Wales to offer funeral prayer for Zeeshan Akbar who was killed by two teenagers.

The ritual was held at the Lakemba mosque this morning and attended by Pakistan Consul General Mr Abdul Majid Yousfani.

The Pakistan High Commission has finalised the arrangements to send Mr Akbar’s body to his family in Pakistan this evening.

Mr Yousfani briefly addressed the occasion and thanked the community members for their support.

He reiterated that no financial help was needed from the community for transportation of Mr Akbar’s body.

Mr Akbar, 29, was found with stab wounds by a fellow employee at the Caltex service station on Bungendore Road just before midnight on Thursday, and he died at the scene, .

Pakistan High Commissioner Naela Chohan is dejected of Mr Akhbar's death.

"He was a very sweet young boy, very hardworking and very dedicated," Ms Chohan told SBS.

"In his eight years of stay here [in Australia], he had earned lot of friends and lot of love; so when you know a person who is so kind and good and dies in such a horrific manner it shocks everybody."

Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, have been arrested over the death and an alleged second non-fatal stabbing in a Queanbeyan street.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has offered condolences and termed the involvement on the youngsters in this killing "shocking".

"The involvement in this crime of two males, two youths, teenagers is shocking and a matter which underlines many of the concerns we have raised in this field,” Mr Turnbull told reporters.

Meanwhile, deputy NSW Police Commissioner Catherine Burn said physical evidence found at the scene suggested terror links.

"The extent of that is unknown, and really, we can't draw any conclusions whatsoever and in fact it is only one line of inquiry at the moment,” she told reporters.
