Syed Atiq ul Hassan, a social worker, community leader, and champion of multicultural Australia, passed away in Sydney on 26 April 2025. According to his son, Sabih Hassan, he was a devoted father and a community leader who believed in unity and inclusiveness.

Across Australia, various organisations and community members paid tribute to the distinguished social and humanitarian figure and founder of the Chaand Raat Eid Festival, Syed Atiq ul Hassan. He received numerous accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New South Wales government.
Speaking to SBS Urdu, his elder son, Sabih Hassan, said that Syed Atiq ul Hassan was recognised in Australia and Pakistan as a renowned journalist and broadcaster.
Sabih Hassan noted that Syed Atiq ul Hassan was a social activist, community leader, and journalist. As the head of his family, he was regarded as a role model for the Australian Pakistani community.

According to Sabih, Syed Atiq ul Hassan was a passionate advocate of multicultural values and the founder of the Chaand Raat Eid Festival.
