Canberra residents won't be exposed to ads for junk food, alcohol, gambling, fossil fuels or weapons on their buses.

The ACT government will restrict what products can be advertised on its fleet of buses to make sure messages promoted are in line with its objectives and community values.

Transport Reform Minister Shane Rattenbury noted school children made up a significant proportion of bus passengers in the territory and said restrictions on junk food, alcohol and gambling ads in particular would bring buses in line with other existing government regulations.
