An Australian Federal Police officer has pleaded not guilty to committing sexual offences against a young person.

The 35-year-old Palmerston man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was not present at the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday.

His lawyer entered the pleas on his behalf.

He is accused of grooming, acts of indecency and maintaining a sexual relationship with the minor.

The officer and his victim were living together for some time, his lawyer told the court.

The matter will return to the ACT Magistrates Court on September 20.

He was suspended from duty last month.

"All AFP members are expected to behave at all roles in a manner that upholds the organisation's core values, reputation and integrity - consistent with community expectations," the force said in a statement.

"As this matter is before court it would not be appropriate to make any further comment."
