Amazon has ignited public outrage after selling Christmas ornaments decorated with pictures of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz.
The Auschwitz Memorial tweeted screenshots of the snowflake and bell-shaped decorations, calling them “disturbing and disrespectful”.
“Selling ‘Christmas ornaments’ with images of Auschwitz does not seem appropriate,” the museum tweeted.
It later added that the items had been removed from the online retailer.
The museum then discovered more Auschwitz-themed items on the site from a different seller, tweeting "sadly it’s not over".
These items were also later removed by Amazon.
Amazon released a statement saying “all sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including the potential removal of their account”.
The museum’s post brought the items to the attention of others on social media who condemned Amazon.
Auschwitz was first set up by the Nazis after they occupied Poland during the Second World War.
The Auschwitz Memorial says more than one million Jews were killed at the concentration camp between 1940 and 1944.
The Christmas decorations on Amazon were discovered little more than a week after Spanish fashion label Loewe withdrew a black and white striped ensemble amid complaints that it resembled the uniforms worn by concentration camp prisoners.
