Australians have crowned Icelandic band Daði & Gagnamagnið the winner of Eurovision 2020: Big Night In!.

The band’s synth-pop song, Think About Things, was voted Australia's favourite track of the virtual contest, set up after .

Australians had been invited to vote for their favourite act to qualify for the 2020 version of the contest - which was due to be held this weekend in Rotterdam - with the results revealed on Saturday night during a broadcast on SBS.

Australians couldn’t vote for Montaigne, who was selected as Australia’s 2020 entrant at the .

However, SBS viewers were able to watch a performance of the song that she would have performed in Rotterdam, Don't Break Me.

“To bring a song to life on the Eurovision stage takes a lot of hard-working creative people, and though we don’t get the real stage, I’m grateful that we get to show off our baby, in which we are very proud, to the public,” she said.

SBS Commissioning Editor and Australian Head of Delegation Josh Martin said SBS was proud to have given Eurovision fans some sort of closure to this year’s song contest.

“Although we'll never know who might have won the song contest this year, Montaigne's performance tonight was incredible. I have no doubt she would have done Australia proud and finished high on the leader board,” he said.

Australian voters decided Russian band Little Big was their second favourite act, with Lithuanian group The Roop coming in third.

Alternative Eurovision events have been organised around the world to fill the void left by the main event’s absence.
