A thousand blood donors are needed to roll up their sleeves to ensure there isn't a shortage of blood across the nation over the Easter long-weekend.
"The need for blood doesn't stop to go on holiday; there are people in hospitals that are relying on blood donations so they can enjoy Easter with their family," Blood Service spokesman Shaun Inguanzo said on Monday.
Just days out from the long weekend, 1000 appointments still need to be filled across the country - mainly on Easter Monday - Mr Inguanzo said.
In critical short-supply are stocks of platelets, a short-lived blood component that needs refilling every day. Patients in critical need of blood donations include cancer patients, road trauma victims and women giving birth.
