Hundreds of dogs and puppies living in squalid conditions have been taken by the RSPCA from two houses in Victoria, some allegedly crammed into tiny cages.
The RSPCA and police raided two properties in Longwood on Tuesday as part of an investigation into breeders with links to show dogs.
Inspectors found four dead dogs at one property and seized 69 small breed dogs and six cats - as well as 50 dogs surrendered by the owners.
The dogs, including chihuahuas, chinese crested and spaniels, were allegedly found living in small cages both inside and outside the properties.
"All of the animals were taken into care because of immediate and serious concerns for their welfare," the RSPCA said in a statement on Wednesday
The animals have been taken to an RSPCA facility where they are receiving vet care.
A total of 13 notices to comply were issued to the owners for animals that remain at the property, including birds, cats and dogs.
The RSPCA says there are several investigations currently underway in Victoria relating to large-scale animal cruelty involving dogs.
