Chinese actress Liu Yifei has been given the tick of approval from Disney fans following accusations of 'whitewashing' in Hollywood.
Fans were eagerly waiting to find out who would be playing the main role in Disney's live remake of the 1998 animated movie Mulan and were thrilled to find out Ms Yifei would be playing Chinese heroine Hua Mulan.
In the year-long lead up to the casting, more than 100,000 people signed a petition online to encourage Disney to ensure an Asian actress would play Mulan.
"Tell Disney you don't want a whitewashed Mulan!" the petition read.
"We did it! Thanks to all of your signatures, we were able to ensure that Disney cast an Asian actress to play Mulan. Disney announced they have cast Chinese actress Liu Yifei (also known as Crystal Liu). Thanks so much for signing!"
The actress that voiced Mulan in the animated movie was delighted for Ms Yifei.
Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, acts as a brand ambassador for some of the world's top fashion brands and recently starred in the CHinese fantasy film Once Upon a Time.
She has starred alongside Jackie Chan in the 2008 action movie The Forbidden Kingdom and 2014's Outcast with Nicolas Cage.
Fans turned to social media to show how happy they were at Disney's choice of actress.
Hollywood has been under fire in recent years for casting white actors for characters that were not supposed to be white.
Most recently, Scarlett Johansson played a character originally Japanese in the film Ghost in the Shell.
