Fox’s longstanding animated sitcom, ‘The Simpsons’, may have unknowingly predicted the future.
In an episode titled ‘Bart to the Future’, Lisa Simpson is elected President of the United States - a role she inherits from the outgoing President Donald J Trump.
"We've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump," Lisa’s heard saying in the Oval Office.
The episode first aired on March 29, 2000 – over 16 years ago.
Writer Dan Greaney told in March this year just why Trump was chosen to fuel the ridiculous “over-the-top” situations the show’s characters find themselves in.
"He seems like a Simpsons-esque figure, he fits right in there," Greaney told the Post.
"But now that he's running for president, I see that in such a darker way. He seemed kind of lovable in the old days, in a blowhard way."
The episode was meant to highlight “the vision of America going insane”, said Greaney told earlier this year.
"It was a warning to America," he said.
"What we needed was for Lisa to have problems that were beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could, and that's why we had Trump be president before her.”
Trump will take office on January 20 next year.
