Authorities are trying to identify the driver who was filmed deliberately running down several emus.

The RSPCA has condemned the "horrific cruelty" shown in a video posted on social media, saying it "clearly has no place in our society".

Footage starts on the vehicle’s speedometer, which displays a reading close to 120 kilometres per hour before panning up to the dirt road where a male voice can be heard saying ‘F***ing emus”.

The vehicle is then seen gaining ground on more than 15 emus, which are running away, before mowing down the flightless birds.

The voice then counts as they are hit, with the video finishing on him laughing.

Inspectors for the RSPCA are investigating the footage to determine where and when it was filmed and are appealing for help to identify the driver.

The video was shared on Facebook by a user with the comment: “I didn’t take the video I only share it and I have got nothing to do with it.”

The driver faces up to five years in jail and a $22,000 fine if found guilty.
