Every budget, the Australian government outlines where it expects to spend its money in the coming 12 months, within a document called the "Estimated expenses by function".
It is a snapshot of where taxpayer money, and the government’s other sources of revenue, are to be spent.
This budget, the government has earmarked a total of $454.1 billion for spending on health, education, defence, social security and other expenses in 2016-17.
Note: Spending in this visualisation includes recurring payments by function (expenses) and one-off payments by function (capital measures).
