Deputy Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce is calling on his coalition colleagues to calm down over the GST, saying the government is not even in sight of a "fait accompli".
Liberal senator Cory Bernardi is among a number of government backbenchers expressing concern at a possible increase in the GST rate to 15 per cent, going so far as to suggest he might cross the floor of parliament and vote against the government.
Mr Joyce believes that's premature, telling reporters in Canberra on Thursday there is no "concrete plan of something to consider in regards to changing the GST".
