Government MPs have stymied a Labor attempt to have Malcolm Turnbull front parliament and explain why he made misleading statements about the capital gains tax.
Mr Turnbull on Monday emphatically ruled out increasing the tax, saying it was "no part of our thinking whatsoever".
But Labor frontbencher Tony Burke, in seeking to suspend the business of the lower house on Tuesday, said the prime minister's office later confirmed the government was still "actively considering changes".
