Madonna is set to perform at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest next month in Israel.
Live Nation Israel has confirmed the 60-year-old will perform two songs as a guest artist, including a new single from her upcoming album.
The cost of bringing the Queen of Pop to Tel Aviv is reported to be $1.3 million USD.
The fee is reported to be covered by Israeli-Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams, and the US artist is expected to travel to Israel with an entourage of more than 160 people.
Madonna is not the first US singer to appear on the Eurovision stage.
Justin Timberlake performed as guest artist at Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden.
But this year's contest comes in the backdrop of political controversy, amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Some are criticising the move.
Others have welcomed the announcement.
By tradition, Eurovision is held in the country of origin of the previous year’s winner.
In 2018, Israel's Netta took the title in Lisbon, Portugal with her song Toy, inspired by the #MeToo movement.
Israel had won the Eurovision three times before — in 1978, 1979 and 1998.
In the past, high-profile artists, including Lorde and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, have refused to perform in Israel in protest of its policies toward Palestinians.
Ahead of this year's contest,which begins May 14, there have been calls for international broadcasters and artists to boycott the event.
