Magnitude 5.5 quake hits off Taiwan

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake off the coast has rattled buildings in Taiwan's capital but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

An earthquake measuring magnitude 5.5 has struck off the northeast coast of Taiwan, the island's Central Weather Bureau says.

The quake on Monday shook buildings in the capital Taipei, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Earthquakes are common in Taiwan. In February, a 6.4 magnitude quake toppled a large apartment complex in southern Taiwan killing more than 100 people.
