A 35-year-old man has been charged with a string of offences following an abusive tirade on a Melbourne tram.
Mobile phone vision purportedly shows the man swearing at a passenger to get off.

“You Indian f***, get the f*** off!” the man is heard screaming to the passenger seated across the aisle from him.

The victim attempted to remain calm and ignore the abuse as he stood up to alight from the tram, but the disheveled attacker did not stop and kicked him from behind as he walked away.
It is believed four people in total were attacked by the expletive-laden passenger, with reports he also made threats while holding a syringe.

Victoria Police have told SBS the man was arrested at 6.30pm, near Southern Cross Railway Station and has been charged with assault, theft and public drunkenness.

However, police said the charges were unrelated to any claims of racism.

He will front Melbourne Magistrate’s Court today.
