US philanthropist Tom Steyer has unveiled a $20 million ad campaign calling for the impeachment of the US president.
A major part of his push was two huge digital billboards which have been placed in Times Square, the iconic commercial intersection which sees hundreds of thousands of people pass through every day.
The billboards, which will be on display ten minutes every hour through to New Years’ Eve, included a count of the number of signatories to a petition set up on Steyer's website .
The petition calls on Congress to move to make Donald Trump the third president in history to be impeached.

"Donald Trump has brought us to the brink of nuclear war, obstructed justice, and taken money from foreign governments," the petition reads.
"We need to impeach this dangerous president."
Steyer told Bloomberg: “We legitimately feel that this is the huge issue in front of the American people that no one is standing up for what the overwhelming number of Americans think."

More than 2.6 million people have signed Steyer's petition.
He claimed the campaign was about "direct democracy".
“It seems as if elected officials don’t think this is the time or don’t think that it’s tactically smart,” he said.
“We’re not trying to be tactically smart. We’re not trying to in some way, shape or form use this for the (2018) midterms.”
His campaign included a television ad, which launched last month, featuring Steyer accusing Trump of being a “clear and present danger” to the world, and also accusing him of leading the US to the brink of a nuclear conflict.
“If this is not a case for impeaching and removing a dangerous president, then what has our government become?” Steyer said in the television ad.
“I’m funding this effort to raise our voices together and demand that elected officials take a stand on impeachment.”
