Widespread blackouts across Victoria have progressively been fixed after thunderstorms lashed the state.
More than 100,000 properties were without power at one point on Tuesday night when wild wind gusts reaching up to 117km/h felled trees and powerlines.
Crews worked through the night to restore power to homes, with about 3000 properties still without power by Wednesday evening.
State Emergency Service crews responded to more than 2000 requests for assistance, mainly for building damage, fallen trees and powerlines.
An SES spokesperson confirmed the hardest hit areas were Manningham, Mildura, Kilmore, Wangaratta and Bendigo.
October to December is typically stormy for Victoria, but the rainfall was significant, the Bureau of Meteorology's Dean Narramore said .
"It was a pretty severe storm," he said.
About 20mm of rain fell in the Melbourne CBD within 15 minutes and across the suburbs there were records of up to 34mm.
There was also a massive 12C temperature drop, down to 24C, in Melbourne as the cold front moved across the state.
Epping, Nunawading and Knox were the suburbs hardest hit by "ping pong ball to golf-ball-sized hail", Mr Narramore said.
