Prisoner found hiding in roof of Qld home

Two prisoners who escaped from a police van are back in custody, one after being hit by a car, the other found hiding in the roof of a Queensland house.

One of two prisoners who escaped from a police van has been found hiding in the roof cavity of a home north of Brisbane.

The two men were being transported in an unmarked police van when they managed to escape from the rear of the vehicle.

One of the prisoners, 28, was hit by a car as he tried to run across two lanes of traffic at Deception Bay on Monday afternoon. He has been treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The second prisoner, 21, was found hiding in the roof of a Deception Bay house. An associate has been charged with harbouring an escaped prisoner.

The two escapees have been charged with escaping lawful custody and will front the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The man accused of hiding the younger escapee will front the same court in August.

Police will investigate how the pair were able to escape from the van.
