WHAT WE LEARNED

* The prime minister is a fan of a business called Aussie Bum, which he described as having "started from scratch".

--

WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

Labor stands for higher taxes on workers, businesses, property, investment and retirees.

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

Is there a secret deal with One Nation to get its corporate tax cut through parliament after five by-elections in July.

--

THEY SAID WHAT

"Is this just another failure of this prime minister, or has the prime minister struck a secret deal with the One Nation party to delay the vote giving $80 billion to big business until after the upcoming by-elections?" - Bill Shorten on the government shelving its business tax cut.

"Most people start off with no business at all and build it up. Others, and I think the shadow minister would fall into this category, would start with a large business and turn it into a small one." - Malcolm Turnbull takes aim at Labor's new shadow small business minister Chris Bowen.

"I look forward to the leader of the opposition's tip-toeing through all the land mines he's created around Australia." - Turnbull.

@terrimbutler Very excited to take on new responsibility for young Australians and youth affairs today. The Turnbull government needs to stop waging its war on young people and start thinking long-term. #qt #auspol
