SBS Dateline's Evan Williams wins 2018 Lowy Institute Media Award

The judges commended Evan Williams on the influence, topicality and quality of his work.

SBS Dateline journalist Evan Williams has been recognised with his second award in a week for the SBS Dateline episode .

In the special hour-long Dateline film, Evan Williams hears first-hand about brutal killings and attacks on Myanmar's persecuted Rohingya Muslim population.

Veteran ABC Pacific Correspondent Sean Dorney presented the award at the New South Wales Parliament House on Saturday night.

The award in its sixth year recognises excellence in foreign affairs journalism that has "deepened the knowledge or shaped the discussion of international policy".
Mr Williams receives $20,000 as part of the prize.

Previous award winners include the ABC’s Matt Brown, Fairfax’s Jewel Topsfield, The Australian’s Paul Maley, the ABC’s Hayden Cooper, and Fairfax’s John Garnaut.

Earlier in the week, Mr Williams received the  coveted Documentary Award for the film, which he produced with Eve Lucas and Georgina Davies.
