After two years of injury the Seattle Seahawks have cut Australian defensive tackle Jesse Williams.
The 24-year-old 191cm tall, 148kg defensive tackle from Brisbane was one of four roster moves the Seahawks made on Friday in an attempt to rebound from their recent disappointing Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots.
Williams didn't play a single down in the two seasons since the Seahawks drafted him in 2013, with knee injuries forcing him on the team's injured-reserve list.
Despite being on the sidelines, he still picked up a Super Bowl ring in 2014 when the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 43-8 in the NFL's ultimate game.
After a stellar two years at the University of Alabama, the Seahawks drafted Williams in the fifth round and he signed a four-year $US2.371 million ($A3.05 million) contract.
But, in the cut-throat NFL where teams hold most of the power, the contract only had guaranteed pay of $US211,000.
Williams, known as `Tha Monstar', was working hard the past 12 months to get back in shape after a second knee injury in training camp last July ended his 2014-15 season.
Williams has been back in Brisbane visiting family, friends and continuing his training schedule.
His latest tweet was from Ballymore Stadium.
Williams will be hoping to be picked up by another NFL team.
As well as waiving Williams, the Seahawks cut veteran tight end Zach Miller after he failed a physical and offensive tackle Garrett Scott.
They signed defensive end Greg Scruggs to a one-year deal.
Williams' departure comes just days after NRL convert Jarryd Hayne announced he had signed a deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
