Seven West Media has hired Daily Telegraph deputy editor Anthony De Ceglie to head up its West Australian newspaper division.
The 33-year-old, who has been deputy editor of the News Corp-owned tabloid since March 2016, will leave Sydney to become senior editor of the group that includes The West Australian and The Sunday Times from January.
Mr De Ceglie has already worked in various roles for the Kerry Stokes-controlled Seven West Media, and replaces Brett McCarthy, who quit last week after nearly 10 years in the role.
"His task is simple - to lead our talented teams in creating the most compelling, agenda-setting, journalism across our world-class publications, helping inform the communities we serve," Seven West chairman Mr Stokes said.
Chief executive of the company's West Australian operations, Maryna Fewster, said Mr De Ceglie's focus will be to lead the transformation of the group's news floor.
"In particular the creation of a seven-day newsroom and the launch of digital subscriptions," she said in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr De Ceglie began his career as a cadet journalist at the Collie Mail south of Perth and then the Mandurah Mail before joining the then News Corp-owned The Sunday Times in Perth.
"I grew up reading The West Australian and The Sunday Times," he said.
