Spain terror attacks: Who are the victims?

Last week's attacks in Spain claimed the lives of 15 people, spanning all corners of the world and generations.

A three-year-old Spanish boy on a family day out, an American couple celebrating their wedding anniversary and an 80-year Italian woman on holiday are among the 15 people who lost their lives in the vehicle attacks in Barcelona and the nearby seaside resort of Cambrils. 

The Islamist militant who killed 13 people with a van in Barcelona was killed by police on Monday, ending a five-day manhunt for the perpetrator of Spain's deadliest attack in over a decade.

Police said they tracked 22-year-old Younes Abouyaaqoub to a rural area near Barcelona and shot him after he held up what looked like an explosives belt and shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is Greatest). The bomb squad used a robot to approach his body, Reuters reported.

The 15 comprise of six Spanish nationals, three Italians, two Portuguese, a Belgian, a Canadian, an American and a British-Australian, he added. Among them were two children.

Catalan police have said that a victim found stabbed dead in a car in Barcelona has been linked to the case and is included in the death toll of 15.

The victims, including more than 100 injured, came from 34 countries including Australia, England, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Canada, the US, France and China.

Australia

Julian Cadman, 7

Julian's family say they will remember him as an "energetic, funny and cheeky" boy who always brought a smile to their faces.

He and his mother had been in Barcelona for a family wedding, and became separated when the van ploughed into crowds in the Las Ramblas district. 

Julian's mother Jom continues to be treated at a hospital in Barcelona.

Spain

Francisco Lopez Rodriguez, 57

Mr Rodriguez is originally from Granada, in southern Spain. 

He had been walking along Las Ramblas with his wife, who was seriously injured in the attack and is recovering in hospital.

The pair were accompanied by their niece and her two children, one of whom was also killed.

Javier Martinez, 3 

The youngest victim was the grand-nephew of Francisco Lopez Rodriguez (above)

Pepita Codina, 75

Ms Codina is from the Spanish town of Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà.

The town's mayor, Xavier Vilamala, confirmed her death on Twitter.

Ana María Suárez, 61

Ms Suárez is the only person to have been killed in the attack in the seaside resort of Cambrils. 

According to local media, she was on holiday with her husband and sister, who were both injured in the attack. 

Her death was confirmed by the Spanish royal family’s Twitter account who offered their thoughts to her family.

United States

Jarad Tucker, 42

Mr Tucker and his wife were in Barcelona celebrating their one-year anniversary.

His father, Daniel Tucker, who worked with his son in the family’s pool business, told the , “It’s something we really just don’t understand. I don’t know what else to say.”

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has expressed his condolences Mr Tucker's family.

Canada

Mr Wilson was on holiday with his wife of 53 years, Valerie. 

Their daughter, Fiona issued has a  saying:

"[My dad] was compassionate, generous, adventurous, and always game for a lively debate, a good book, exploring new places, and a proper-sized pint.

“In the midst of this tragedy, my dad would want those around him to focus on the extraordinary acts of human kindness that our family has experienced over the past several days, and that is exactly what we intend to do.”

Argentina

Silvina Alejandra Pereyra, 40

Argentina's Foreign Ministry said Ms Pereyra, 40, who had dual Spanish-Argentinian citizenship, was among the dead. She had lived in Barcelona for a decade.

Italy

Bruno Gulotta, 35

Mr Gulotta is believed to have been on holiday in Barcelona with his wife and their two young children.

Mr Russo was on holiday with his girlfriend, who is believed to be among those injured in the attack.

Carmen Lopardo, 80

Ms Lopardo was an Italian national who had lived in Argentina for decades and was on holiday in Spain.

Belgium

Elke Vanbockrijck, 44

Ms Vanbockrijck, from Tongres in eastern Belgium was on holiday in Barcelona with her husband and two sons.

Portugal

A 74-year-old Portuguese woman and her 20-year-old granddaughter, were among the dead, according to the Portuguese government.

Their names are yet to be released.
