Eddie Woo's exponential rise from Sydney maths teacher to YouTube sensation could soon make him a millionaire.
Mr Woo was on Wednesday named one of the world's top 10 teachers, putting him in line for the $US1 million ($A1.4 million) Global Teacher Prize.
He will head to Dubai along with the other finalists in March, when the winner of the lucrative award will be announced.
"I'm so excited about the possibilities this is going to unlock," Mr Woo, the head mathematics teacher at Cherrybrook Technology High, said.
"The 10 of us represent the different facets of what thousands of great teachers do to serve their communities all over the world in all different ways."
More than 30,000 teachers from 173 countries had been nominated, with the finalists from countries including Turkey, Brazil, the Philippines and Belgium.
It follows Mr Woo's 2018 national Local Hero Award on Australia Day.
Mr Woo's Youtube videos have been watched more than 11 million times by viewers across the world.
