The highs and lows of the Liberal campaign

LIBERAL CAMPAIGN IN A NUTSHELL

--

THEME: Building our economy. Securing our Future.

--

BEST MOMENT

From shearing a sheep and jumping on a sideshow ride to kicking soccer balls and hauling sandbags, Scott Morrison has not been afraid of getting his hands dirty for a photo opportunity (even when his staffers protest).

--

WORST MOMENT

A young woman attempted to egg Morrison at a CWA event in Albury, prompting the prime minister to blame "idiot" animal activists and "militant unionists".

--

TOP POLICIES

* Continued economic growth and a further tranche of personal tax cuts to flatten the rate for everyone earning between $45,000 and $200,000 and cut it to 30 per cent.

* Guarantee 15 per cent of a loan for first home buyers so they only need to save five per cent of a deposit.

* More support for youth mental health and to prevent suicide, including expanding the headspace network.

--

BEST SUPPORT ACT

Jenny Morrison - in a campaign that's been all about the leader (and a party that's light on for women) the usually shy prime minister's wife has stepped into the spotlight a number of times to talk about her personal struggles with infertility and depression and Morrison's courtship of her when they were both teens, thus bringing a human side to a man many still see as the hard-hearted "stop the boats" immigration minister.

--

RUNNER UP

John Howard. The former prime minister has gone above and beyond to campaign for struggling Liberal candidates across the country - including Tony Abbott who is under siege from independent Zali Steggall in his usually super-safe seat of Warringah on Sydney's northern beaches.
