Thousands have gathered at Melbourne's Federation Square for a memorial paying tribute to those impacted by a deadly car attack in the city's CBD last week.
The vigil unfolded as the man accused of killing five people and injuring dozens of pedestrians was charged with five counts of murder.
Dimitrious Gargasoulas has been remanded in custody and is due to face court in August.
Melbourne's Lord Mayor Robert Doyle appeared before the crowds to thank them for their support.
“We are here to share in our grief, but to gather strength and hope after an unthinkable act," he said.
“Melbourne is our home. When it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us.”
The crowd included several emergency service workers.
Among the dead were 10-year-old Thalia Hakin, 22-year-old Jess Mudie and 33-year-old Matthew Si.
A three-month-old boy and a 25-year-old Japanese man also died.
