Two of the highest paid executives at Qantas are leaving the airline as chief executive Alan Joyce shakes up his team.

Qantas International boss Simon Hickey will be replaced by chief financial officer Gareth Evans in 2015, and the head of Qantas Domestic, Lyell Strambi, will be replaced by chief operating officer Andrew David.

The reshuffle is part of the airline's three year transformation program, Mr Joyce said.

"This new executive team will lead this work forward to deliver for our customers, shareholders and employees according to the strategy we have laid out," he said.

Mr Hickey and Mr Strambi were among the five top paid executives at Qantas in 2013/14, earning $1.45 million and $1.7 million respectively.

Mr Hickey has been with Qantas for a decade, and has been overseeing the most challenging segment of Qantas' business, with the International division's underlying loss more than doubling in 2013/14 to $497 million.

Mr Strambi has been with Qantas for six years, and his domestic division has been hit hard by its battle with Virgin Australia, with its underlying earnings dropping from $365 million to $30 million last financial year.

Both men were appointed to their positions in the last major executive reshuffle at Qantas, in May 2012.

Mr Joyce said they had made a tremendous contribution to the airline.

In other changes, deputy chief financial officer Tino La Spina has been promoted to replace Gareth Evans.

QantasLink CEO John Gissing will be group executive of associated airlines and services.

Executive manager of group strategy Robert Marcolina's role will be expanded to include transformation and IT.

The transition to the new structure will begin in the new year, with changes finalised by March.

"This represents a flatter structure for the broader Qantas Group executive team, with the positions of Deputy CFO, QantasLink CEO and Qantas Airways chief operating officer not being replaced," Mr Joyce said.
