Melbourne's Russell Street bomber Craig Minogue has faced court over the abduction and rape of two women in the 1980s, including one on the eve of his infamous attack.
The 56-year-old was charged in May over the separate incidents and appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court by video link from prison on Friday, when 37 charges including abduction by force and aggravated rape were officially filed against him.
He sat with his arms crossed during the hearing, wearing the bright red tracksuit reserved for the state's highest-risk prisoners.
He's serving a life sentence for bombing the Russell Street police headquarters in 1986, killing Constable Angela Taylor and injuring 22 others.
Prosecutors sought a forensic sample from Minogue on Friday, which was not opposed.
Another man, 61-year-old Peter Michael Komiazyk, faced court on the same charges last month after police revealed DNA connected that man, also known as Peter Reed, and Minogue to the attack.
Komiazyk, as Reed, was acquitted over the bombing, but jailed for 13 years for the attempted murder of police during a subsequent police raid.
Brian Stanley Taylor, also jailed for the bombing, was also identified in the rape cases through DNA. He died in jail in 2016.
Court documents allege an 18-year-old woman was abducted off a South Yarra street in November 1985 and repeatedly raped by multiple people including Minogue and Komiazyk over several hours.
In the second incident on March 26, 1986 - the eve of the bombing - it's alleged the group, including Minogue, abducted a 19-year-old woman off a Nunawading street and that she was repeatedly raped at Minogue's then-home.
That woman was inside the Russell Street police station reporting the assault when the bomb exploded.
Minogue was allegedly armed with an "offensive weapon" during both incidents.
He's accused of slapping the second victim to the mouth and punching her in the ribs.
Minogue has served more than 30 years in jail. He was sentenced to life with a 28-year non-parole period.
He's pursuing a High Court challenge against legislation designed to keep him behind bars indefinitely.
Minogue and Komiazyk are due to face a committal hearing on September 13.
