Australia was slower to get COVID-19 vaccines in arms than initially expected, with the country's rollout impacted by delays - but in 2022 is seeing strong numbers across many demographics.
The graphics below cover first and second doses of the vaccine and are updated automatically.
Vaccinations by state and territory
States and territories varied their approaches to the vaccine rollout. Some moved early to open vaccination hubs, while others made younger age groups eligible for the jab.
The following graphic shows the percentage of people aged 12 and over who are partially or fully vaccinated in each jurisdiction. People in Australia currently require two jabs to be fully vaccinated, with millions of booster shots (a third vaccine) expected to be administered in 2022.
Vaccinations by age and population size
The initial rollout largely prioritised older Australians, given their increased vulnerability to the worst effects of COVID-19.
The following graphic shows the proportion of each age group that is now partially or fully vaccinated across Australia.
The percentage of each age group vaccinated
Similarly, the following graphic shows the percentage of each age group partially or fully vaccinated across the country.
Australia's vaccination program opens to children aged five to 11 on 10 January 2022.
Each jurisdiction's vaccinated population, aged 16+ 50+ and 70+
Presenting the data another way, the following graphic shows which percentage of three broader age groups have been partially or fully vaccinated across Australia, and in which state or territory.
