- Canada's Prime Minister says his country is not for sale, after meeting with Donald Trump
- Liberal candidate expected to win back the Victorian seat of Goldstein
- Australian cyclist Caleb Ewan announces his retirement
US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney have met at the Oval Office, with neither showing signs of retreating from their differences in an ongoing trade war that has shattered decades of trust between the two countries.
As for Mr Trump's calls to make Canada the 51st state, Mr Carney insists his nation is "not for sale".
"And having met with the owners of Canada over the course of the campaign last several months, it's not for sale, it won't be for sale, ever. But the opportunity is in the partnership and what we can build together. And we have done that in the past. And part of that, as the President just said, is with respect to our own security. And my government is committed for a step change in our investment in Canadian security and our partnership."

Reports are emerging that Victorian Liberal candidate Tim Wilson has won back his former seat of Goldstein after a tight race with Independent Zoe Daniel.
In the latest count, Mr Wilson is ahead of the incumbent Teal independent by 734 votes.
The comeback marks a dramatic shift from the weekend, in which Zoe Daniel gave a victory speech to her supporters after thinking she has secured re-election.
There are still several thousand ballot papers awaiting processing but the postal votes have so far been in Mr Wilson’s favour.

The Israeli military has carried out its second attack in two days targeting Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Israel warned people to leave the area around Sanaa International Airport before the latest attack, which it said targeted Houthi infrastructure and fully disabled the airport.
Witnesses later reported four strikes in the capital.
Tensions have been high since the Gaza war began, but have risen further since a Houthi missile landed near Israel's Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday.
Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, says Israel remains firm in its position.
"I have said many times that whoever attacks Israel – their blood is on their own head. Our decision on when to respond, how to respond, and which targets to respond to — that is a consideration we make each time."
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump says Yemen's Houthis have agreed to halt their attacks on shipping.
He says in response, the US will stop bombing Houthi targets.

The Vatican says all 133 cardinals expected to take part in the secret conclave to elect a new Pope have arrived in Rome, with selection of a successor to Pope Francis seen as wide open.
The conclave starts behind the closed doors of the Sistine Chapel today, with all cardinals aged under 80 entitled to take part in the election.
Some cardinals are looking for a Pope who will continue Francis' push for a more transparent, welcoming Church, while others are seeking a return to more traditional roots.
Vatican expert Peter Casarella has spoken to SBS Arabic .
"I don't know if there's a perfect candidate who has the firmness of theological precision and the firmness of doctrine of Cardinal Ratzinger, who became pope Benedict XVI, together with the pastoral approach of pope Francis, but who knows, we'll see. Maybe there's someone who who appeases and attracts both the progressives and the conservatives."

In cycling, Caleb Ewan has stunned the sport by announcing his immediate retirement.
The Australian announced the decision on social media, saying events of the last two years - especially around his messy exit from top Australian team Jayco AlUla - have "taken a significant toll on my relationship with the sport".
The 30-year-old sprint ace started this year without a team and it looked as though his career could end prematurely.
But he joined high-profile British outfit INEOS Grenadiers and made a successful return in late March, winning his first comeback race.
He then claimed a WorldTour-level win last month and appeared to be back on track - before the announcement on his retirement.
