The Greens will meet in Melbourne today to choose a new leader.
Former leader Adam Bandt lost his seat of Melbourne at the election, with the minor party losing three out of its four seats in the House of Representatives whilst retaining 11 spots in the Senate.
Senators Sarah Hanson-Young, Mehreen Faruqi, and Larissa Waters are expected to contest for the leadership position.
Liberal leader Sussan Ley and Nationals leader David Littleproud will also meet today, to discuss the sharing of opposition portfolios between the parties.
The discussions are expected to last several days.
Ms McKenzie told Channel 9 the talks would not just focus on the number, but type of portfolios each party would hold, as well as how the Coalition operates.
"It's a very successful partnership over a long period of time. But it shouldn't be taken for granted. It needs to be an agreement that is mutually beneficial to both parties and actually reflects the reality of the election result, where the National Party are proportionately did incredibly well.
We haven't had this amount of political clout within the Coalition since the 70s."

Hamas-run Palestinian health authorities say more than 80 people were killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza overnight.
Medics say most of the dead, including women and children, were killed in airstrikes on houses in the Jabalia area of northern Gaza.
Israel's military also issued evacuation orders to people in several districts in Gaza City, including schools and the Al-Shifa Hospital.
Manal Al-Ankar says her daughter was among those ordered to evacuate the hospital.
“My daughter was admitted to hospital as a result of the siege, starvation and malnutrition. The hospital was notified to evacuate a short time ago, and as you can see, hundreds of beds, hundreds of injured, where should they go? Where shall we head to? We only have God, there is no power and no strength except with God, we only complain about our weakness to God. God is sufficient for us and is the best disposer of affairs for all who let us down.”
Meanwhile, Israeli media is reporting Hamas military leader, Mohammad Sinwar, and other senior officials have been killed in a strike on the European Hospital in Khan Younis.
There has been no confirmation by the Israeli military or Hamas.
Israeli officials say it could take days or weeks to confirm the possible assassination.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a delegation will attend peace talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Turkey today [[Thurs]].
The delegation includes an adviser to the President, senior diplomats and defence officials - but there is no commitment that Mr Putin himself will attend.
There has been uncertainty whether the meeting will take place ever since Mr Zelenskyy, who is currently en route to Ankara, called for the Russian leader to meet him face to face.
It comes as the European Union approves its 17th sanctions package on Russia, aimed at oil exports and more Russian officials.
German chancellor Friedrich Merz flagged the possibility of further sanctions and strongly criticised Russia's refusal to comply with a 30-day ceasefire proposed by Ukraine that was to begin last Monday.
“We are waiting for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's agreement and we agree that if there is no real progress this week, we want to work together at the European level for a significant tightening of sanctions."

In golf,
The PGA championships are underway in North Carolina today, with former Australian number one Jason Day joining the ranks of champions Rory McIlroy and Scotty Scheffler to take on defending tournament champion Xander Schauffele.
Day says he is cleaning up some unfinished business before he retires.
He is gunning for a second career major - on the comeback tour after a drought-breaking 13th Tour victory in 2023.
American Jordan Spieth has his own ambitions for the Quail's Hollow tournament - this week will be his ninth attempt at a career Grand Slam.
He says he has been inspired by Rory McIlroy, who achieved his first P-G-A tour win at the course.
“It's always circled on the calendar for me. If I could only win one tournament for the rest of my life, I'd pick this one for that reason. Obviously watching Rory win, after giving it a try for a number of years, was inspiring. You could tell it was a harder win than -- most of the time he makes it look a lot easier..”
