Police are hunting the person responsible for the fatal shooting of a grandmother, who was killed outside a family property in Sydney's southwest.

Detectives say three people were seen getting out of a dark coloured sedan outside the house in Ambarvale before the woman was shot.

Detective Superintendent Grant Healey says the attack was targeted but it's unclear if the 65-year-old was the intended victim.

He says investigators have been so far unable to interview some distraught family members and they would give them more time to process the death.

Anti-violence advocates are convening a national online forum tonight on family and domestic violence.

Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth, Coalition senator Kerrynne Liddle, Greens senator Larissa Waters and independent MP Zoe Daniel have all confirmed their attendance.

The forum is being organised by the national organisation No to Violence, amid concern politicians are yet to prioritise the issue during this federal election campaign.

Meanwhile Premier Chris Minns has said the government should do everything it can to help, after being asked to respond to reports another woman was allegedly killed overnight in New South Wales.

"My view remains that victims of crime, particularly of domestic violence, go through an enormous pain and enormous adversity, and it's the government's job to rally around them."

A federal judge has asked Trump administration officials to explain why they have not yet brought back a man wrongly deported to El Salvador - despite the Supreme Court ordering his return.

The judge's questioning has come a day after White House advisers repeated the claim that they lack the authority to follow the court order, and the president of El Salvador confirming he would not return the man, named as Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

A U.S. immigration judge had shielded Abrego Garcia from deportation in 2019, but the Trump administration has maintained while his deportation was an administrative error, they insist he is a member of the MS-13 in the U.S.

The man's wife Jennifer Vasquez Sura says her husband has done nothing wrong.

"Kilmar needs to come home . And it's time we see how exactly how this will be fulfilled. Enough is enough. My family can't be robbed from another day without seeing Kilmar."

Australia says it has been assured Indonesia won't allow Russian aircraft on its bases.

Military publication Janes had reported Moscow was seeking permission from Jakarta for Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft to be based at the Manuhua Air Force Base at Biak Numfor - about 1400 kilometres from Australia's mainland.

Defence Minister Richard Marles says he trusts Indonesia despite their diplomatic ties with Russia.

He has told Channel Nine that their defence cooperation agreement is the strongest Australia has ever had.

"I do trust Indonesia, but Indonesia has been a non-aligned country for decades. They do have relationships with other countries around the world, which they've had for decades, again, which Peter Dutton knows. So there's no news in that. What's important though is that our relationship is, our bilateral relationship with Indonesia is in a place today that is as good as it has ever been."

The Coalition says it would scrap Labor's free Tafe program if it's elected in May.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says the Liberal party is not supportive of the government's TAFE policy because it considers it to be badly designed and poorly targeted.

Liberal Senator Jane Hume has backed those comments, saying the policy fails to address poor completion rates in some courses.

Researchers have received a multi-million dollar grant to develop personalised cancer treatments for rare cancers using artificial technology.

Macquarie University and the Australian Cancer Research Foundation have revealed their joint $2 million project will print cancer cells in 3D and use artificial intelligence software to analyse them.

The researchers say they want to determine why some cancers, such as certain melanomas, do not respond to treatment as expected.

A mixed team golf event will debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The PGA Tour has confirmed the event will be contested as a 36-hole competition, split across two 18-hole rounds.
