- A four day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to begin within hours
- A bushfire emergency continues in Perth
- India achieves a two-wicket win over Australia in the first Twenty20 international
A temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will come into effect this afternoon at 4pm AEDT.
Israel says the truce could last beyond the initial four days decided upon as long as Hamas free at least 10 hostages per day.
Both sides have said they will go back to fighting once the truce is over.
The breakthrough four-day truce, facilitated by Qatar with help from Egypt and the United States, had been due to take effect on Thursday but was delayed.
During a meeting with UK foreign secretary David Cameron in Jerusalem, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would continue pursuing his goal of destroying Hamas.
"There's no hope for peace between Israel and the Palestinians, between Israel and the Arab states if we don't eradicate this murderous movement that threatens the future of all of us. I think it's a larger battle of civilization against barbarism, the kind of savagery that you saw on your visit. It's the worst savagery perpetrated on Jews since the Holocaust."

Out-of-control bushfires that have claimed at least 10 homes in metropolitan Perth have shown no sign of easing overnight.
Authorities warn strong winds and high temperatures mean it could be days before crews bring the fires under control after they ripped through semi-rural properties and threatened other homes on Thursday.
It was too late for many people to leave in eight suburbs in the City of Wanneroo and the City of Swan, in Perth's northeast.

Australian authorities are investigating how a group of 12 people landed on a remote part of the West Australian coast after travelling by boat from Indonesia.
The people are not Indonesian nationals and it is unclear yet if they are fishermen or asylum seekers.
The Australian Border Force has so far refused to comment.
The boat was undetected and landed in the Wyndham East Kimberley Shire in the north of the state.
The area is extremely remote and three hours away from any settlement.

New York's signature Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has begun the U-S celebration of Thanksgiving.
A quintessential American rite, Thanksgiving brings together family and friends for turkey dinner and watching the parade and American football on TV.
It also marks the most intense week of the year for travel and start of the holiday shopping season on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban says there's a huge security operation going on behind-the-scenes.
"The security begins the day after last year ends (referring to last year’s parade), and we work with our federal, state, and local partners to ensure the safety. When we talk about that, what does that means? It means there will be things that you will see and things that you won't see. Things you will see is our officers on the route, on and off the route. And things behind the scenes, our counter-terrorism efforts that you won't see."

Australian shoppers are expected to spend a record amount during this year's Black Friday sales.
Despite a sluggish year of retail spending, the National Retail Association is forecasting there will be up to $6.3 billion in sales over a four-day period.
Some are predicting even higher figures though, with comparison website Finder forecasting a $6.7 billion spend.
