This Melbourne Cup ad bears an uncomfortable likeness to colonial India

The resemblance is uncanny, no?

Sports betting agency UBET has released an ahead of Melbourne Cup Day.

The ad features AFL player Jonathan "Browny" Brown encouraging viewers to join his campaign to make Melbourne Cup Day a public holiday in NSW.

The video also features a man of colour wearing a jockey's uniform and doting on Browny and his guests in nearly every frame.
Many stills from the ad hold a surprising likeness to real life images from colonial India or the time of the British Raj.

During that period, several ethnic Indians were taken in as servants and slaves of white settlers.

Here are six stills from the UBET ad placed alongside images from the British Raj. Some are uncanny.
