Paris climate signatories fail to slash emissions amid ongoing record-breaking temperatures

Last year's record-breaking temperatures could be a sign that the world has already entered an era of 1.5 degrees celsius warming, according to new research. That figure was the warming limit agreed on at the 2015 Paris climate talks. Overnight, nearly all signatories of that agreement — including Australia — missed a UN deadline to submit new targets for slashing emissions.
