Senator Fatima Payman has dramatically defected from the Labor Party. A week after she was indefinitely suspended from the party for crossing the floor on Palestinian statehood, she has made the decision to cut ties with the party that fostered her career. Meanwhile, protesters have managed to breach security at federal parliament to unfurl giant pro-Palestinian banners across the front of the building.
