Gathering at the Opening Ceremony at Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre, competitors were briefed on the event and forecast for the waiting period.
Victorian Indigenous Surfing Champion, Jordie Campbell (Sandy Point) is looking forward to surfing at Bells Beach.
“This event is something we all look forward to every year. It’s a great gathering of friends and family at a location that means so much to all of us” said Campbell.
“The forecast is looking good for the event and I can’t wait to get out there and surf in the Bowl with only 3 other guys out!”
Official Swell Forecaster for the event, Coastalwatch PLUS, is calling for some great conditions to kick off the event Friday.
"The forecast for Friday is excellent, with clean, solid surf all day. A new WSW groundswell building in on Thursday will hold plenty of size early on Friday before slowly easing throughout the day" said Coastalwatch Chief Forecaster Ben McCartney.
The public and media are invited to attend the traditional indigenous smoking ceremony to open the event that will be held at Bells Beach at 8:30am on Friday 20th May.
