Casimira Tipiloura is the first student to graduate with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) from year 12 in the Tiwi Islands, in over one hundred years of the school’s history.

Casimira Tipiloura, from Xavier College, said she planned to continue her education.

"I love children and I want to come back to my community and continue to give the children here the education that I received whilst helping the kids of the Tiwi Islands maintain their culture!" she told Cathy Freeman Foundation ambassador and actor Luke Carroll.
Luke Carroll, who attended her graduation, says he is extremely proud.

"Not only this but she is the first person from her entire family, including her parents, to finish high school!" he wrote in a recent Instagram post.
I love children and I want to come back to my community and continue to give the children here the education that I received
"Casimira is an inspiration and I was honoured to meet her...something tells me that we are going to see and hear a lot more of this exceptional young lady in the future!!"

Carroll told NITV he was honoured to have meet her and praised her drive.

"It's a credit to the school and teachers, but it is all about self-determination, and she's got it in abundance."

Carroll added he wanted to see a change in educational outcomes so that success becomes the norm for parts of rural Australia.

Year 12 students around Australia have been receiving their final results this week. The results provide them the opportunity to enter higher education.
