SINGING WORKSHOP WITH TENZIN CHOEGYAL

Suitable for All Ages

Explore the Tibetan style of vocal projection and be inspired by Tibetan storytellers who performed musical parables for generations. Tenzin will also share his knowledge in Mantra singing, traditionally known as a powerful tool for meditation. Come along prepared to sing your heart out!

MUSIC WORKSHOP WITH GETANO BANN

Come discover the power of music and learn from Getano Bann, renowned music therapist. A ‘narrator of life stories,' Getano is an award winning and celebrated singer, songwriter and storyteller of Scottish and Torres Strait Islander descent.

Getano has shared the stage with numerous acts including: No Fixed Address, Soweto String Quartet, Shane Howard and Goanna Band, Joe Geia, Bunna Lawrie, Tim Freedman, Blue King Brown, Kavisha Mazzella, Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, Christine Anu, Chris Wilson, Kevin Car-mody, The Wurrupi Band, Mary G, Lindsey Pollack, Mel Webb, Greg Sheehan, Bart Willoughby, Coloured Stones and many more.
Music workshops will be held at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Homeground festival

WEAVING WITH THE GOMEROI - WORKSHOP WITH AUNTY DOLLY JEROME

When you weave, you have an instant connection to country. In this workshop, participants will learn the basic techniques of weaving from Renowned Aboriginal weaver, Dolly Jerome. Dolly is based in the New England area of northern NSW.

For Dolly, weaving is a combination of art, culture and natural resource management, in this workshop she shows participants how to strip the plant or weed, process, gather, turn into string and ultimately create a traditional head, arm, leg or waist band.

WEAVING WITH WOOL AND ORGANICS - WORKSHOP WITH DEB WILLIAMS

Originally from Nunga country, Deb Williams has exhibited canvas sand sculptural work in a number of group and solo exhibitions. Her recent work focuses on textile and traditional materials through weaving. Her history of working in the public service and policy sector have cemented a strong interest in social justice and working with young people.

In this workshop, adults and children can learn how to weave with reclaimed materials and grass fibres to make a wall hanging, basket, or animal that you can take home!

BUNDJALUNG WEAVING THE GRASSES - WORKSHOP WITH KARLENE GREEN

Karleen is one of NSW most respected weavers, having a 15 year history of delivering basket weaving workshops across schools, especially on Sydney’s northern beaches.
Karleen is a member of the Bundjalung nation and has worked extensively in Aboriginal Community groups, not for profit organisations and the corporate sector including PepsiCo Australia. Her position at Vibe Australia saw her working across a number of areas including the annual Deadly Awards, Deadly Sounds National Radio show and varying corporate events.

WASHED UP WORKSHOP WITH SONJA CARMICHAEL

Sonja Carmichael is a Quandamooka woman and a descendent of the Ngugi people, one of three clans who are the traditional custodians of Quandamooka. In this workshop, children will use lost and discarded items washed up from the ocean to create a unique works of art. Young people will learn about creativity and the environment, and listen to stories about caring for country told by Aboriginal artists and elders.

The Wagana Aboriginal dancers perform Contemporary Aboriginal dances inspired by the beautiful Blue Mountains country. Come and join in and learn the steps of the Darug and Gundungurra peoples as they share their culture through dance, music and storytelling.
